The Hornady ELD-X (Extremely Low Drag – eXpanding) is a match-accurate, all-range hunting bullet featuring high ballistic coefficients and a proprietary Heat Shield tip to prevent aerodynamic deformation. It is designed to provide devastating expansion at close range (0–400 yards) while maintaining enough weight for deep penetration, and reliable mushrooming at extended ranges (400+ yards). 

Key Technologies
Hornady incorporates several advanced features to ensure consistent performance from the muzzle to extreme distances: 
Heat Shield Tip: Made from a heat-resistant resin, this tip resists melting or deforming due to aerodynamic heating, which Hornady discovered using Doppler radar. This maintains a consistent ballistic coefficient (BC) throughout the entire flight path.
InterLock Ring: A mechanical lock that keeps the lead core and jacket together. At high-velocity impacts (under 400 yards), it ensures 50–60% weight retention for deep penetration.
AMP Jacket: The “Advanced Manufacturing Process” jacket features virtually zero variation in wall thickness, contributing to match-grade accuracy.
Secant Ogive & Boat Tail: This streamlined profile maximizes aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in flatter trajectories and less wind drift.
